| Chirimena is a small town, from which you can explore the many surrounding coves and beaches, which are among the best in the region. It is an area of coast where the jungle covered hills come down to meet the blue Caribbean Sea. The numerous beaches range from quiet protected coves accessible only by boat, to beaches hugely popular with the younger crowd at weekends, and where national surfing competitions are held. The area offers a range of activities, from surfing and bodyboarding, to kayaking, jungle walks, eco tours and 4x4 trails. There are also scuba diving trips from a nearby beach. Chirimena town is small, and has a couple of shops and basic beachfront restaurants, as well as a few small guesthouses and hotels. However, it is just a 15 minute drive to Higuerote, which has large numbers of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and medical services. Higuerote also has a private airport, which is due for expansion to accept international flights. Higuerote also has a large deep water marina and yacht club. |
